Flight tracking data compiled by @TheIntelFrog shows at least 35 C-17 Globemaster III cargo flights from U.S. military bases since March 12, with 11 more en route. The destinations: Ovda Air Base in Israel (17 flights), King Faisal Air Base in Jordan (13), and King Hussein International Airport in Jordan (4). The Jerusalem Post confirmed current deployment numbers: 2,500 Marines, 2,000 sailors, 3,000 paratroopers, and 3 amphibious ships. The Wall Street Journal reports Marines are set to arrive Friday (March 28), with additional forces in the coming weeks. Airborne units remain on rapid standby. The flight origins map directly to America's most elite combat units. Here's who's moving. |
82nd Airborne Division (Fort Bragg, NC) — Six C-17s launched from Pope Army Airfield. The 82nd Airborne is the Army's Global Response Force. The New York Times reported that senior military leaders are considering deploying the division's Immediate Response Force (IRF), roughly 3,000 paratroopers who can deploy anywhere on Earth within 18 hours. Division training exercises have been canceled to maintain readiness. The 82nd's Combat Aviation Brigade is also rotating into CENTCOM (U.S. Central Command) for helicopter support and air assault operations. 160th SOAR "Night Stalkers" (Fort Campbell, KY) — Four flights from Campbell Army Airfield. The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment flies the most dangerous helicopter missions in the U.S. military. The same unit that flew the operators who captured Maduro in Venezuela. They specialize in inserting and extracting special operations teams in hostile territory using modified Black Hawks, Chinooks, and Little Birds. If operators are going into Iran, the Night Stalkers are the ones getting them there. 75th Ranger Regiment (JB Lewis-McChord, WA) — Seven flights from Lewis-McChord. The 75th Rangers are the Army's premier direct-action raid force. They specialize in airfield seizures, high-value target raids, and securing key terrain. They deploy by parachute, helicopter, or boat. Navy SEALs (NAS Oceana, VA) — Four flights from Naval Air Station Oceana. SEAL teams handle the maritime domain: beach landings, vessel boarding, and underwater demolitions. In any island seizure scenario, SEALs are among the first on target, clearing approaches for follow-on forces. Delta Force / JSOC (Fort Bragg, NC) — Fort Bragg also houses the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). Six flights from Bragg indicate America's top-tier counterterrorism operators are repositioning alongside the 82nd. 10th Mountain Division (Fort Drum, NY) — The division's 2nd Mobile Brigade Combat Team, about 1,900 soldiers, deployed earlier in 2026 for Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria. They're focused on partner advising and counter-ISIS stability operations. Two Marine Expeditionary Units — The 31st MEU is arriving from the Indo-Pacific aboard USS Tripoli. The 11th MEU is en route via USS Boxer. Each carries roughly 2,500 Marines with amphibious assault capability, MV-22 Ospreys, and attack helicopters. |

How They Stack UpThis force structure is layered. SEALs secure initial objectives from the water. The 160th SOAR inserts Rangers and Delta teams by helicopter for precision raids. The 82nd Airborne drops thousands of paratroopers to seize and hold ground. Marines assault from the sea with amphibious vehicles and Ospreys. The 10th Mountain and existing regional forces provide depth and stability behind the front line. |
The Target: Kharg IslandSenior Pentagon officials are weighing deployment of the 82nd's IRF to seize or secure Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf. The island handles roughly 90% of Iran's crude oil exports. Controlling it would choke the regime's primary revenue stream overnight. Kharg sits in a strategic position in the northern Persian Gulf, and combined U.S. air and naval power from carrier strike groups USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford already dominates the surrounding airspace and sea lanes. No final deployment order has been issued for the IRF. But the C-17s are flying, the Marines arrive Friday, and the training exercises are canceled. |
Israel Declares Security Zone Up to the Litani River |
Defense Minister Israel Katz announced today (March 24) that the IDF will establish and hold a security zone in southern Lebanon reaching the Litani River. The IDF has destroyed all five bridges over the Litani that Hezbollah used to move fighters and weapons south. |
"All the bridges over the Litani that Hezbollah used to transfer terrorists and weapons have been blown up, and the IDF will control the rest of the bridges and the security zone up to the Litani." — Defense Minister Israel Katz |
The IDF struck the al-Dalafa Bridge, a key Hezbollah logistics route for fighters and weapons into southern Lebanon. Overnight, Israeli jets destroyed the Radwan Force headquarters and intelligence base in Beirut, along with a command post hidden inside Hezbollah's Noor radio station in A-Tiri village. Katz added that hundreds of thousands of Lebanese evacuees will not return until security is guaranteed for northern Israeli residents. Hezbollah fired at least 20 rockets at Haifa's Krayot suburbs today. Israeli air defenses intercepted. |
Saudi Arabia and the UAE Edge Toward Joining the Fight |
The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf are edging closer to joining the fight against Iran after repeated strikes on their energy infrastructure. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is now "eager to re-establish deterrence and is close to a decision to join the attacks." The Journal's sources say "it is only a matter of time before the kingdom enters the war." Saudi Arabia has already shifted its stance, now allowing the United States to use Saudi air bases for operations against Iran. The UAE is also moving closer to involvement. Both countries have seen Iranian strikes on Gulf energy sites, and the patience is running out. |
The U.S. is positioning its most elite ground forces across Israel and Jordan while Marines prepare to arrive Friday. Israel is expanding its security footprint in Lebanon to the Litani River. Saudi Arabia is opening its bases and inching toward direct involvement. The air and naval campaign now has a ground component forming behind it, and Kharg Island sits at the center of the planning. |
