Signals: Israel and U.S. Quietly Ready for Iran
Signals from Jerusalem and Washington over the past few days point to a region that's not so quietly shifting into higher readiness for a possible confrontation with Iran. It's important to note that none of these moves on their own prove a strike decision has been made. But together they show Israel and the United States positioning to act on short notice.
The clearest political signal comes from Jerusalem. Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to brief opposition leader Yair Lapid on Iran tomorrow (Tuesday) night….their first such one on one in roughly six weeks.
These security briefings between political rivals aren't usual. They're usually saved for big national security calls: operations that could draw Iranian retaliation, nuclear breakthroughs, or situations needing at least minimal unity and opposition buy in.
Holding one now, after weeks of rising tension and military shifts, means Jerusalem sees the coming days as strategically important.
At sea, the U.S. has placed the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group in the Middle East, operating in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman.
“Officially” it's defensive, aimed at "keeping Iran honest," but you don't park a carrier there is high chance you’ll use it, or need it for deterrence.
The USS Lincoln arrived Friday, January 25, marking the completion of the U.S. buildup. Over the last few weeks C-17 carriers went back and forth, stocking the middle east with everything needed for whatThis might be coming.
Nothing was going to happen until America had all its assets in place, and now it does. Iran hasn't attacked first. If they had the capability to land a fatal blow on the U.S. or Israel, they would have done it already. But they didn't.
On land, the defensive shield is getting thicker. Extra U.S. air and missile defense batteries are now fully operational across the region.
These buildups usually happen when Washington expects a possible Iranian first move or is setting conditions to act while keeping retaliation casualties low. It's offense backed by solid defense.
In Israel, civilian systems are being quietly pushed toward wartime posture. The civil aviation authority warned foreign airlines that the coming weekend could be a "potentially sensitive security period." If Ben Gurion airspace closes, foreign carriers get priority to depart fast and clear out. Israel has sent similar notices before past escalations tied to Iran.
They don't mean war is automatic, but they're not issued without a real risk scenario in play.
The health system is tightening up too, more discreetly. Senior hospital and health fund officials met with the Health Ministry to review emergency protocols. No public nationwide jump to highest alert, but the instructions are leaning that way: prepare to enter full wartime readiness, operate only in protected or underground spaces, cutting inpatients sharply to free beds, and plan for mass casualty capacity very quickly.
Beyond the obvious, there are more signs…. forward basing of U.S. electronic warfare aircraft, strategic transports hauling in equipment and munitions, laying groundwork for bigger operations if needed. Iran keeps issuing defensive NOTAMs and running live fire drills, restricting airspace and talking a lot.
Open source reporting says U.S. strike options are numerous….from limited hits on missile batteries or IRGC sites to more symbolic strikes on regime institutions.
Though the administration is split on what is the right move. Ultimately Trump will make the call.
In Iran, signals are just as tense. Reports have Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei retreating to secure facilities, paired with fresh threats against U.S. forces and the ongoing brutal crackdown on protests.
Put it all together and it looks like a classic "decision window." Politically, Netanyahu brings the opposition leader in….something he does only when stakes are high and unity matters. Militarily, the U.S. has layered carriers, defenses, and assets in place. Civically, Israel tells airlines and hospitals to plan like war could come. None forces action. But all of it means no cold start if the moment arrives.
For now, the takeaway isn't "war tomorrow"...it's more like "preparation today." This is not the first time this happened. During the 12 Day War, there were signs as well. And Israel was ready well before the Red Alert was issued.
Now, the region is set up so a strike.
The next days and weeks will tell if this stays as deterrence... or turns into war again.
Iran isn’t the only one who wants to party. Kataib Hezbollah Secretary General Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi issued an official statement yesterday. He called on his mujahideen brothers worldwide to prepare for a "comprehensive war" or all out war in defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran, framing it as the fortress and pride of the Ummah that's backed the oppressed for decades regardless of sect or race.
He accused Zionist forces of attempting to destroy Iran and erase global moral principles. He urged “Axis of Resistance’’ groups to back Iran any way they can.
He quoted Quran on casting terror into disbelievers' hearts, told fighters to get ready on the ground and get used to "one of two good outcomes" (victory or martyrdom), and said if religious authorities declare jihad, mobilize for combat…..including potential martyrdom operations, to defend Islam. To them, It's straight holy war.
Yemen's Houthis, not wanting to be left out either, dropped a short new video around the same time showing old footage of a ship on fire captioned simply "Soon." No extra details, but reports tie it to threats of resuming attacks on ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and Red Sea, especially U.S. naval forces…..if the U.S. strikes Iran.
Houthis paused their major Red Sea attacks during the Gaza ceasefire but have repeatedly warned they'd restart if escalation happens again.
Iran, focusing on the important stuff, have designed a new mural in the heart of Tehran, threatening a strike on the USS Lincoln
In short, there are a lot of signals…Too many to ignore. One question many keep asking is: How long will this last? When will be the final war?
While nobody knows for sure, keep a close eye on the Middle East. Things are about to get interesting.
IRAN ENTERS FULL DAMAGE CONTROL MODE
Iran's regime thought turning off the internet would hide them from the world. Boy, were they wrong. Eighteen days into the longest blackout in the country's history, videos of police shooting protesters keep leaking out anyway. Protests started in late December over a collapsing economy but turned into calls to overthrow the Islamic Republic entirely. By today(January 26), the government faces one of its worst crises ever, with casualty claims ranging from thousands to a shocking 30,000 killed in just two days.
The nationwide internet shutdown started on January 8 at 8:30 p.m. local time, right when security forces moved hardest against demonstrations that had spread to hundreds of cities. Monitoring groups like NetBlocks call it one of Iran's most complete blackouts ever. The regime wanted to stop protesters from organizing, block footage of the violence, and keep the world blind. They pushed their domestic intranet for propaganda while cutting off everything else. Partial restoration happened around January 23 in some areas, especially as the regime came under fire for cutting out the world, but most people remain cut off from the outside world.
Iranians beat the blackout with smuggled Starlink satellite terminals and other workarounds. Videos still get out through satellite connections, VPNs, and diaspora networks.
TIME magazine cited two senior Health Ministry officials claiming up to 30,000 people died on January 8-9 alone….the peak of the crackdown. Photos have been released showing morgues overflowing, body bags, ambulances replaced by eighteen wheel trucks hauling corpses.
Iran International reports even higher at over 36,500 killed those two days, based on witnesses, families, and leaked documents. New York Times mentioned around 3,000 early on. Other groups put total deaths since December between 5,000-12,000. No one knows exactly because of the blackout, but the violence was massive.
Smuggled videos show Basij militias, Revolutionary Guards, and police fired live rounds into unarmed crowds, sometimes at point blank range. CNN pieced together the deadly 48 hours. BBC published leaked Tehran morgue photos showing hundreds of bodies identified by families. Protesters smashed surveillance cameras. Families posted pictures of missing relatives.
The regime is in full damage control and panic mode. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei hid in a bunker during the worst violence. Now officials have failed so badly, they are resorting to damage control online. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei called TIME's report a "Hitler-style BIG LIE," claiming the West planned to kill 30,000 Iranians but failed, so now they're faking it in the media. He blamed America and Israel for the deaths despite clear videos of regime police shooting protesters.
Baghaei's outburst shows they're scared. They thought no internet meant no witnesses. Yet, Starlink and smuggled phones keep a small but steady flow of information coming out of Iran.
The regime thinks they bought time with overwhelming force, but when full internet returns, expect a flood of new videos.
That's why spokesmen are so busy with damage control now…..they know this month’s bloodbath can't and won’t stay hidden forever.
Israel Searches for Last Gaza Hostage's Remains After Hamas Hands Over Location
After 843 days, the family of 24 year old Israeli Border Police officer Ran Gvili may finally get closure. Gvili was killed during the October 7, 2023 attack while on medical leave for a broken leg. His body was abducted into Gaza, making him the last known hostage/remains still held there.
Hamas announced yesterday that they provided mediators with all available information and precise details on Gvili's location. They say Israeli forces are now searching a specific site based on those coordinates.
IDF Southern Command troops launched a targeted operation in northern Gaza, focusing on a cemetery area known as the "Yellow Line" zone. The search involves ground forces and drones. It's ongoing as of midday Israel time.
Of course, Hamas knows they must cooperate, however they do not want to give Israel the luxury of making it easy. They’ve basically created a treasure hunt and left Israel to do the work.
On the surface, this seems like cooperation, but if they are going to hand over their last bargaining chip, they want to give it all they’ve got.
