🇮🇷 Tehran · The Squeeze

USS Rafael Peralta enforces U.S. blockade of Iranian ports

Bloomberg reports Iran has 12 to 22 days of oil storage left. The U.S. naval blockade has cut exports by 70%. Strait of Hormuz shipments have nearly stopped. Production could drop another 1.5 million barrels per day by mid-May.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), led by Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, warned internally that anti-regime protests could resume within days. Their assessment: Iran can withstand another 6 to 8 weeks of blockade. Up to 2 million private sector jobs could vanish by spring's end. Treasury Secretary Bessent: "Pumping will soon collapse. Gasoline shortages in Iran next."

"We did not agree to the removal of a single gram of highly-enriched uranium. Iran needed the ceasefire to replenish our arsenals."

— Mahmoud Nabavian · Iran Majles Security Commission

Iran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but only after the war ends with guarantees it won't resume. CNN reports private talks are more advanced than they appear, with the first piece of any deal focused on reopening Hormuz without fees. WSJ reports Trump is prepared to restart the war if talks fail. Secretary Rubio: "Iran is serious only about finding a way to buy itself more time."

Rubio questioned whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is actually running the country: "We have no evidence that he is not alive. The question between 'alive' and 'in power' are two different questions." He said the hardliners with an "apocalyptic vision" hold ultimate power, and the new supreme leader's credibility remains untested.

Iran FM Araqchi met Putin yesterday (April 27). Putin pledged to do "everything in the interests of Iran." Thailand's Foreign Minister put the Hormuz crisis in scale: Thailand asked China for help passing 8 ships through the strait. China said it's struggling to move 70 of its own. UAE Advisor Gargash captured the Gulf mood: "Iran acts as if it is a superpower, even when it does not possess nuclear weapons. Imagine if it possessed those weapons."

🇱🇧 Southern Lebanon · The Ceasefire Fractures

Hezbollah Goes to War on the Ground

Hezbollah FPV drone attacks on IDF in southern Lebanon

Hezbollah is hitting IDF positions in southern Lebanon with nonstop FPV drone attacks. Sunday's strike in Taybeh killed one soldier and wounded six. Hezbollah released the footage, including a second drone that targeted the evacuation of the wounded. The IDF fired interceptor missiles at suspected drones and confirmed another engagement today (April 28).

The IDF's Arabic spokesperson called on residents of 16 villages south of the Litani River to evacuate toward Sidon, citing ceasefire violations. Strikes hit Kfar Tebnin, Zoter al-Sharqiya, and Zawtar el-Charqiyeh this morning. The Bislach Brigade destroyed roughly 1,000 terror infrastructure sites and located hundreds of weapons. Golani forces eliminated armed terrorists in close-quarters combat and uncovered weapons depots with anti-tank explosives, explosive UAVs, and RPGs.

Al Jazeera reports Hezbollah plans to deploy suicide bomber groups using 1980s tactics to prevent the IDF from holding positions. Hezbollah leader Qassem categorically rejected direct negotiations with Israel. Trump told Netanyahu the ceasefire must hold. Israel's army chief said 2026 is "likely to be a year of fighting" on all fronts.

"There will not be a ceasefire in Lebanon alongside fire on our forces. If the Lebanese government continues to shelter under Hezbollah, fire will come out and burn the cedars of Lebanon."

🇶🇦 Doha · The Break

Qatar Ends Two-Decade Relationship With Hamas

Qatar ends relationship with Hamas

Qatar has ended its two-decade relationship with Hamas and will no longer serve as host or mediator. Most of Hamas's political leadership has already departed the country. The decision followed Hamas's delayed and weak response to Iranian strikes on Qatari territory during Operation Roaring Lion. Turkey is in early discussions to potentially offer the group a new base.

Rubio said there are "encouraging signs of progress towards an agreement to disarm Hamas."

Separately, Israel's Foreign Ministry published evidence that Qatar ran an intelligence operation to influence ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan over targeting Israel. When the operation's manager was asked if backing came from a sheikh or the state, the answer: "the state." Israel called it a crooked prosecutor and a corrupted court.

Bottom Line

Iran is counting weeks before economic collapse by its own internal assessment. Hezbollah is escalating on the ground while the Lebanon ceasefire disintegrates. Qatar just removed itself as host and mediator for Hamas. All three of Iran's biggest assets, its oil revenue, its Lebanese proxy, and its diplomatic shield in Doha, are under direct pressure at the same time.
