🇺🇸 Strait of Hormuz · The Blockade

U.S. warships deployed to support the Hormuz blockade

The U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is in full effect. CENTCOM (U.S. Central Command) issued a formal notice: vessels entering the strait without authorization are subject to interception, diversion, and capture. A senior U.S. official confirmed more than 15 warships are deployed to support the operation.

Fox News reported the blockade is costing Iran roughly $400 million a day, about $13 billion a month. Iran can only store oil for about two weeks before it starts shutting off wells. Over 120 empty oil tankers are en route to the U.S. to load American crude instead.

Ship tracking data confirmed it's working. A tanker bound for China was forced to turn back under the blockade. Kpler data showed the Malawi-flagged tanker Rich Starry departed Sharjah in the UAE fully loaded, turned back yesterday, then resumed today. It transited the strait because it originated from a non-Iranian port. On the first full day of enforcement, Reuters confirmed 3 Iran-linked tankers, Rich Starry, Murlikishan, and Peace Gulf, transited the strait, but none originated from Iranian ports.

Bloomberg reported today (April 14) that Iran is weighing a pause on its Hormuz shipping to avoid disrupting negotiations. Before the blockade began, Iran had threatened to target Gulf ports if it was enforced. Since then, zero Iranian ships have sailed to or from Iranian ports.

"Iran is doing absolutely no business and we're gonna keep it that way very easily. Don't forget that Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their anti-aircraft is gone, their radar is gone, and their leaders are gone. It's a lot."

— President Trump

A NATO official confirmed the UK is leading a coalition of more than 40 nations to reopen Hormuz. NATO allies have refused to join Trump's blockade directly, with Britain and France both declining involvement. Macron is proposing a multinational mission to restore navigation instead.

Saudi Arabia is pushing Trump to lift the blockade, warning Tehran could order the Houthis to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in retaliation, according to the Wall Street Journal. The USS George H.W. Bush carrier strike group is routing around Africa to avoid the Bab el-Mandeb and the Houthis.

Trump posted on Truth Social that Iran's navy is "laying at the bottom of the sea, completely obliterated, 158 ships." He warned: "If any of these ships come anywhere close to our BLOCKADE, they will be immediately eliminated."

🇮🇱 Jerusalem · Mossad Speaks

Mossad: Regime Change in Iran Is the Goal

Mossad Director David Barnea

Mossad Director David Barnea stated publicly: "Our commitment will be fulfilled only once the extremist regime in Iran is replaced."

Barnea confirmed Mossad operated deep inside Tehran, providing precise intelligence that enabled the Israeli Air Force to strike missile threats targeting Israeli civilians. "We acted once again in the heart of Tehran, delivering accurate intelligence and hitting missiles that threaten Israeli citizens."

He signaled the campaign continues beyond the strikes: "We did not think the mission would be completed immediately. We planned for it to continue."

🇵🇰 Islamabad · The Talks

Ceasefire Holds, But the Gap Is Wide

VP JD Vance said the Iranian delegation in Pakistan lacked authority to finalize a deal. "This is ultimately why we left Pakistan, because what we figured out is that they were unable." He added that the first round was still positive, possibly the highest-level meeting between the U.S. and Iran's current leadership in history.

The New York Times reported the core gap: the U.S. pushed for a 20-year pause on Iran's enrichment program. Iran proposed 5 years. Washington is pressing for removal of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile. Tehran is refusing to export it.

Pakistan proposed hosting a second round of talks in Islamabad before the ceasefire ends. Reuters confirmed, citing four sources, that U.S. and Iranian teams will return later this week. Iranian sources denied it, saying there is "still no information about an agreement to hold talks in Islamabad or in other formats."

A U.S. official told Fox that engagement between Washington and Tehran is ongoing with forward motion. Trump confirmed: "We've been called by the other side. They'd like to make a deal very badly." When asked what happens if no deal is reached: "I don't want to comment on that, but it won't be pleasant for them."

🇮🇷 Tehran · Iran's Position

$270 Billion in Damages, and Iran Wants Reparations

Iran's government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said initial estimates put damage from U.S.-Israel strikes at roughly $270 billion. She noted the figure is preliminary and likely to rise. Tehran is pursuing reparations.

Ibrahim Rezaei, spokesman for Iran's National Security Committee, said the ceasefire must not be extended unless Iran's rights are recognized, including control over the Strait of Hormuz. He warned the pause must not be used by the U.S. or Israel to regroup or rearm.

Iran's President Pezeshkian told Macron: "Despite the expert understandings reached between the parties, the excessive demands and lack of political will of senior US officials have prevented the finalization of the agreement."

Iran's Ambassador to the UN called the blockade "a blatant violation of Iran's sovereignty" and demanded compensation from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf states for cooperating. The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) warned Iran will unveil military capabilities the enemy "has no knowledge of" if the war continues.

China backed Tehran. Beijing's FM spokesperson Guo Jiakun called the blockade "a dangerous and irresponsible move" that "will only aggravate confrontation and further jeopardize navigation." Xi Jinping said: "The world order is crumbling into disarray."

Iran's Ambassador to China denied any arms shipment from China was sent to Iran. Iranian civilians remain cut off from the internet, now 46 days since the operation began, the longest internet shutdown in history.

🇱🇧 Washington · Lebanon Talks

Rubio Hosts Israel-Lebanon Meeting as Hezbollah Refuses

Axios reported U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host a meeting today (April 14) between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors in Washington to launch direct negotiations. Israeli Ambassador Yehiel Leiter will meet Lebanon's ambassador at the State Department, with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and Rubio's senior adviser Michael Needham on the American side.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem called on the Lebanese government to cancel the meeting. AP confirmed Hezbollah will not abide by any agreements reached in U.S.-brokered talks. Qassem stated: "Diplomacy has not advanced even one step. Surrender is not an option."

A Lebanese official told Al Jazeera the priority is reaching a ceasefire, calling the session "preliminary" and a starting point before broader negotiations.

On the ground, the IDF struck approximately 150 Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon in the past 24 hours. Givati Brigade forces captured 3 Hezbollah operatives in Bint Jbeil overnight. Since midnight, Hezbollah launched 30 separate rocket and drone attacks against civilian targets in northern Israel. UK PM Keir Starmer called for Lebanon to be included urgently in the ceasefire and for Hezbollah to disarm.

🇮🇹 Rome · Italy-Israel Fallout

Italy Suspends Defense Agreement with Israel

Giorgia Meloni announced Italy is suspending renewal of its defense agreement with Israel over the "current situation." She expressed solidarity with Pope Leo over Trump's comments: "The statements, particularly about the Pope, were unacceptable."

Israel's Foreign Ministry responded: "There is no real security agreement with Italy, only an old MoU with no substance. This will not impact Israel's security." Israel summoned Italy's ambassador.

Netanyahu said yesterday: "We're defending Europe. Europe has forgotten so many things since the Holocaust. Europe forgot the distinction between good and evil. It is afflicted with deep moral weakness and is losing control over its identity."

Bottom Line

The blockade is squeezing Iran at $400 million a day. Ships are turning back, Iran's own officials are floating a pause on Hormuz shipping, and Pakistan is pushing to get both sides back to the table. The gap between a 20-year and 5-year enrichment freeze is enormous. Mossad's Barnea made the quiet part loud: regime change is the stated objective. The ceasefire clock is still ticking.
